Cities traveled to and explored by HPN in 2012 - Manhattan, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Hoboken and a host of other major metropoli and small towns and hamlets along the way - have been captured in color and black-and-white instant film using new Fuji instant film cameras and a refurbished 1970s-era Polaroid Spectra. The Preservation Polaroid Project is ongoing and will extend into 2013 and 2014 for a culminating series of e-books that will be published and made available for sale through HPN's imprint Cavaedium Press. The Passionist: Charles Connick in New Jersey (10)
On Sunday, July 1, 2012 Historic Preservation Network, studying MIT's recently-posted online Charles Connick stained glass archives, discovered that in 1935 the Connick Studio captured a design competition that would permit Connick and one of his main artisans, George Sotter, to work with famed Boston architect Charles Maginnis; please an ancient order of Passionist friars; and join design forces with one of the century's greatest Medieval Revival mosaicists and muralists: Hildreth Meière. This is part of a planned paper and film series on Connick's great New Jersey stained glass monuments, including windows in Montclair, West Orange, Englewood, Bayonne and, in absolute and still-unmatched triumph, Princeton. Read the special series soon in HPN's Preservation Planet online preservation magazine. -
